Quarter 1: Myths, Not Just Long Ago

During the first quarter we will be reading Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief along with classical Greek Myths. The module is broken down into three units. In each module there will be three mid-unit assessments (minors) and three end of unit assessments (majors) along with nightly homework.

Quarter 2: Voices of Adversity

During quarter two we will be reading Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! This is a compilation of monologues set on a Medieval manor. We will be comparing adversities faced by children during the Middle Ages to student’s own adversities today.  Along with the monologues we will read a selection of poems and concrete poems about modern day adversity.

During quarter 3 we will be reading two books: World Without Fish and Flush. We will focus on ocean sustainability and sustainable fishing.

During quarter 4 we will be reading Frightful’s Mountain and focusing on the benefits and harmful effects of the insecticide DDT. We will be writing a position essay on the topic.
